Bosch JS470E Review

When we think of Bosch, jigsaws are not usually the first thing to come to mind. Well, that changed with our Bosch JS470E review. It’s one of the meanest machines currently available and built for folks that appreciate a high-quality tool.

We’ve put together a quick review of this powerful jigsaw to help you decide if it’s right for you. Before we get into the fine details, let’s take a look at what makes the Bosch JS470E tick.

Bosch JS470E Specifications

  • 7.0 Amp motor
  • Variable speeds up to 3,100 SPM
  • Bevel cuts at 45-degrees
  • Adjustable blower
  • 1-year warranty

Who is the Bosch JS470E built for?

Professionals or homeowners that need an industrial style tool… it’s as simple as that.

While regular folks and homeowners can certainly use it as well, it’s built for the job site and is a tool that won’t let you down regardless of the task at hand.

Power and Speed

The Bosch JS470E has a 7.0 Amp motor. That’s 0.05 Amps higher than the top models on the market, which may not sound like much, but it is worth mentioning. Especially when you consider how this particular jig saw is set up.

As you’d expect, the jig saw has a variable speed system. It allows you to go from zero to 3,100 SPM in seconds. Between the speed and motor, you will be able to get through wood up to 5 7/8” thick.

Need to cut metal? That won’t be an issue either as the Bosch JS470E is rated to go through aluminum up to 7/8” thick and 3/8” mild steel. You won’t find many models in this range that can make that claim, and even fewer can actually back it up.

Build Quality

It doesn’t matter if you are buying a 20 dollar framing hammer or a cabinet saw that will set you back a few grand – build quality is always going to be important.

With jig saws, you want to pay close attention the materials used in the build, even if they are mainly made from plastic these days. The Bosch JS470E is well made with thick plastic and rubber around all the right areas. The cord is sturdy as well, and not something you will need to replace anytime soon.

This saw sports a large die-cast foot as well which has a steel insert for increased stability. Rest assured, vibrations will be minimal with this hefty little unit. The precision-machined plunging system is nothing to take lightly either and also helps battle vibrations.

Ease of Use

The top handle is an obvious perk for the Bosch JS470E, but another feature is far less evident. That would be the “tool-less” blade ejector.

While it can’t shoot the blade across the shop at your foes, it will ensure you will never have to touch a hot blade again. This model has a lock button that’s easy to use whether you are right or left-handed as well.

When you do need to adjust the speed, you’ll be thankful for the dial. This lets you hone in on the perfect speed for the material at hand.

The company has also installed something called Constant Response Technology in this jig saw. This optimizes the power so that you’ll have a steady stream of juice and won’t have to deal with performance issues regardless of the material you plan to work with.

Extra Features

If you are familiar with the newer jig saw models, you may have experienced things like blowers and LED lights. Well, this one doesn’t have the latter, but it certainly has a blower, and it’s unique.

Instead of blasting your work area with a jet of air, the Bosch JS470E lets you adjust the angle to better suit your needs. This will keep your cutting line clear at all times and is a great feature to have. The orbital action is easy to adjust as well so you can fine-tune the machine for smooth or very aggressive cuts.

We aren’t going to classify this as a feature, but we feel the need to mention it nonetheless. Do you hate a tool with a short cord? If so, you’ll appreciate the length on this one as it’s over 10 feet long. You should never need an extension cord with the JS470E.

What’s in the box?

This is another area in our Bosch JS470E review we felt stands out. While that may seem odd that accessories would make a difference, most jig saws don’t come with anything outside of a warranty card or a case if you are lucky.

Bosch went big with the JS470E as you will get a blade, bevel wrench, an anti-splinter insert, a no-mar overshoe and a carrying case. Given the price of the saw is in line or cheaper than similar models, you are getting a lot of bang for your buck with this one.

Any downsides?

Every tool has a weakness, even if it happens to be something minor. With this saw, it would be the weight as it’s one of the heavier models we’ve come across. That said, you should not let that rule it out by any means.

We also felt the warranty could be better considering you are only going to get 1-year out of the box. While we love that adjustable blower, you won’t find an LED work light on this particular model.

Conclusion

Normally with a tool of this stature, this is the part where we say the budget is going to rule it out for some.

Not this time, as Bosch decided to keep things affordable for the Bosch JS470E. While it’s far from cheap, it carries a price point that puts it ahead of similar jig saws that don’t provide nearly as much oomph.

There really isn’t a downside with this one as far as the performance is concerned. We do wish it had a longer warranty although we don’t expect quality to be an issue with the JS470E.
